A ONE-WOMAN SHOW

What happens when a woman doesn’t hit all of the typical “milestones” until later in life than the average person, and hasn’t even begun to come into a real understanding of who she is and what she wants until now? Avery, the quintessential “late bloomer," takes the audience on a journey of her sheltered upbringing and “delayed” life milestones. For the first time in her 15-year committed partnership, she experiences attraction and romantic/sexual entanglement with other men, resulting in a whole “second awakening” to her sexuality and womanhood, challenging her worldview on relationships, and ultimately leading up to her first adult heartbreak. She discovers parts of herself she never knew existed, resulting in some radical personal transformation and some hard lessons she’s never had to learn until now.
Avery Volk is an actor, singer, writer, and poet from Phoenix, AZ. After spending many years in the Arizona theatre scene, she discovered a deeper passion and a higher calling when she began writing and performing poetry and, a short time later, discovered the vast world and limitless art form of solo theatre, where GIRL IN REVERSE was first born in early 2022. Since then, she has performed it in LA as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival and the Soaring Solo STARS series mini festival. In May of 2025, the show saw its Arizona debut, which was made possible through a grant from Arizona Commission on the Arts.

Her poetry has been published in Hydration, a collective of work by local Arizona poets.

Her second solo show, GRIEF AND OTHER LIVING THINGS is currently in development.

Through Avery’s art, her aim is to connect and inspire her fellow artists, to challenge the status quo, and to take up space without apology. To play. To be loud, defiant, and lean into the discomfort of the raw honesty and vulnerability of baring one’s soul upon the stage.
This show is rated R for sexually explicit themes and language.
